Four hours from the east coast of the United States and a long way from anything that looks like it, which is why the Caribbean carries more good beach resorts per square mile than anywhere else. This list covers the a la carte properties across Anguilla, Turks and Caicos, St Barths, Barbados, the British Virgin Islands, Saint Lucia, Jamaica and the Grenadines. Resorts sold as one package rate with everything in are a different holiday and are not here. What decides a good one is the beach itself, since west-facing sand and calm water beat a photogenic cove that churns, how many rooms share it, and whether the kitchen can hold your attention for a full week.
